Malawians spice up CDF Tour challenge

GOLFERS from Malawian Defence Force are heading to Dar es Salaam where they will join Tanzanians in a race for the CDF Golf Trophy whose main sponsor, NMB Bank has already injected 25m/- backing to light up the tournament’s success.

Jointly organised by Tanzania People’s Defense Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Golf club of Dar es Salaam and Tanzania Golf Union (TGU), the annual tournament is scheduled to tee off on October 1st and 2nd this year at the club’s course.

Speaking in an occasion to hand over a 25m/- check for the tournament, the club’s Chairman Michael Luwongo, hailed NMB for their tireless support towards development of club and the game.

Luwongo also hailed their Malawian counterparts for bringing nine golfers whose arrival will help brighten the whole tournament.

He, however, said that the national-level event has also received a good response from Tanzanian over 120 have already registered a week before the battle.

Luwongo said they planned to have a unique tournament as it is the first under the new Chief Defense Forces (CDF) Jacob Mkunda who is also the club’s Patron.

Adding, he said the tournament is organised for to honour the new CDF , Mkunda who is expected also to be the Chief guest during a closing ceremony.

Additionally,  the club’s captain Japhet Masai and the manager, David Mziray hinted that they are prepared well to host the tournament efficiently and that the course is well prepared and ready for the prestigious battle.

Head of Corporate Customers Unit of NMB Bank, Getrude Maly praised the efforts being done by Lugalo in pushing forward the development of the game and they, as important stakeholders of the game, have seen the importance of sponsoring it.

“We have sponsored this competition for  seven  years in a row,  but we have given it more weight this time around because this is the first competition under the new CDF Mkunda. This also aims to cement relations during this period of leadership change.

“NMB has become a sports partner in the country, sponsoring various sports to reach all Tanzanians through their favourite sports. We emphasize that we have planned to make the CDF Trophy 2022, one of its kind compatible with the status of TPDF,” she added.

On the other hand, Maly used such an occasion to welcome Chairman Luwongo and golfers at the club to register for anxiously awaited NMB Marathon 2022 (Mwendo wa Upendo)— a charity race to be held in October 1, specifically for raising 60M/- that will cover medical expenses for women who are vulnerable to fistula at CCBRT hospital.
