Make sure school buses are perfect before schools open, Police caution drivers

MPANDA: THE Katavi i Regional Police Force, through its Road Safety Unit, has cautioned drivers of vehicles used to transport students to ensure that all vehicles are in good mechanical condition before commencing operations when schools reopen.
The move aims to enhance students’ safety and prevent avoidable road accidents.
The directive follows a special inspection conducted by the Katavi Regional Police Road Safety Unit, during which vehicles used for transporting students were assessed for their roadworthiness and safety standards.

Speaking during the inspection exercise, the Head of the Road Safety Unit in Katavi Region, Leopord Fungu, said a total of 20 vehicles were inspected. Of these, five were found to have safety defects and were ordered to undergo repairs before being allowed to resume transporting students when schools reopen early next week.
Meanwhile, some parents and guardians have welcomed the initiative, saying that inspecting school transport vehicles ahead of the school opening will help raise safety awareness and improve the protection of their children during journeys to and from school.
