Majaliwa off to Uganda for NAM Summit

Kampala, UGANDA: Over two-thirds of the world’s countries, members of the Non-Aligned Movement-NAM (120) and G77 + China (134), have convened in Uganda’s capital city, Kampala, for the Heads of State Summits, which kicked off on January the 15th to end in January 22 this year.

Tanzania, which is an active member in both blocs, is actively participating in the summit with the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, January Makamba leading the national delegation.

According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’, the ministerial meeting which focused on the themes of “Leaving No One Behind” (G77) and “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence” (NAM) concluded on January 18th, 2024.

Moreover, the ministry stated that the soon to begin, Heads of State Summit today and conclude tomorrow will be represented with the Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa who is expected to address the participants.

On the conference sidelines, Minister Makamba held bilateral talks with counterparts from Kenya, Somalia, Ghana, Ethiopia, DRC, Venezuela, and the Bahamas.

The discussions aimed at strengthening diplomatic relations between the countries and fostering economic ties.

However, Mr Makamba is set to meet with other ministers before the conference concludes for the purpose of establishing a conducive environment for business and investment for economic growth.
