Majaliwa hails bank for Ruangwa Marathon sponsorship
LINDI: PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has expressed gratitude to the various stakeholders who made the second edition of the Ruangwa Marathon 2024 to be successful in Lindi Region.
Elaborating, he cited National Bank of Commerce (NBC) for its enormous contribution in the sports sector in Tanzania, especially to the realization of various initiatives aimed at supporting the community and more son in the health sector.
That came after the bank participated in the second edition of the Ruangwa Marathon 2024, reaffirming its commitment to supporting various stakeholders in the sports sector through sponsorship and the provision of innovative and specialized financial services.
The bank’s objective is part of its broader strategy to align with the government’s and other stakeholders’ efforts in nurturing talent, promoting community health, and creating employment opportunities, particularly for the youth, while also supporting the achievement of various social agendas through the impetus of sports.

Speaking during the event, which was held at the Madini Stadium in Ruangwa and graced by Mr Majaliwa, Ms. Zubeider Haroun, the Coastal Zone Manager of NBC Bank, who represented the bank’s Managing Director, said that the bank’s aim is to continue being a significant player in the sports sector, while also leveraging its financial services to support the stakeholders in the vital industry.
“Our participation in the Ruangwa marathon event is twofold; firstly, we have come on board as one of the main sponsors of the event, and secondly, we have joined the participants, including Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa and other government leaders, in running the marathon, as well as partaking in other activities associated with the event, with the objective of advancing the event’s agenda of driving development through the health, tourism, and sports sectors,” she mentioned.
The event, which attracted nearly 5,000 participants, including government leaders, the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Godwin Mollel, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Arts, and Sports, Hamiss Mwinjuma, prominent artists, and community members, saw the Coastal Zone Manager leading other bank officials, including the Mtwara Branch Manager, Ms. Editha Mwakatobe, and the Lindi Branch Manager, Mr. Iovin Mapunda, in participating in the marathon.
“We have been actively aligning our efforts with the various agendas associated with these sports events, and that has been a significant driving force behind our participation, sponsorship, and even the organization of events like these,” said Ms. Zubeider, citing the example of the NBC Dodoma Marathon, which the bank organizes annually in Dodoma, with the aim of raising funds to support the fight against cervical cancer and provide educational funding for midwives to improve maternal and child health.
Moreover, through its sponsorship of the NBC Premier League, the Youth League, and the Championship League, the bank has also been innovating and providing various financial services to different stakeholders in the football industry, including bus loans for clubs and health insurance for players and technical benches.
