Mahonda borehole eases water shortages

MAHONDA: RESIDENTS of Boma Village in Pangeni Shehia, Mahonda, have received a boost in access to clean and safe water following the opening of a new borehole built to ease longstanding water shortages in the area.

CCM Deputy Secretary General (Zanzibar), Mr Abdi Mahmoud Abdi, inaugurated the project during his ongoing tour of Mahonda Constituency to assess party activities and listen to residents’ concerns.

The borehole was constructed through the Mahonda Constituency Member of Parliament’s Fund and is expected to serve Boma Village and surrounding communities.

Mr Abdi said the project reflects ongoing efforts to improve access to essential services, including clean and safe water, for communities in North Unguja.

“The project belongs to the people, so it is important for residents to protect and maintain it to ensure that it continues providing services for a long time,” he said.

He commended Mahonda Member of Parliament Othman Maulid Suleiman for working with residents to address water challenges and urged the community to safeguard the new facility.

Mr Suleiman said his office, working with the constituency representative, plans to drill 12 more boreholes across different parts of Mahonda Constituency to expand access to clean and safe water.

“The planned projects are intended to address water shortages affecting communities across Mahonda and improve access to clean and safe water,” he said.

The opening of the borehole forms part of ongoing efforts by local leaders to expand reliable water supplies and improve living conditions for residents across the constituency.
