Madina decoration delights golf family

DAR ES SALAAM : THE government’s decoration of golfer Madina Iddi for her brilliance in the big international tournament has delighted golf fraternity countrywide.

Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa acknowledged Tanzania’s top lady golfer Madina in his speech during the climax of the 12th Parliament session in Dodoma on Friday.

Madina has won countless titles in and outside Tanzania.

Madina is the first Tanzanian to win a single title in All Africa Golf Challenge Trophy while also she steered Tanzania to end overall runner up in the event staged in Accra, Ghana in 2018. Recently she won Ghana Ladies Open and Kenya Ladies Open.

Her recognition touched the golf fraternity who said they were very pleased with the Prime Minister’s speech which praised the various efforts achieved by sportsmen/ women and teams too.

Prime Minister congratulated Madina and said: “I would like to take this opportunity to personally congratulate the brave lady golfer (Madina Iddi) for her victory in Ghana and all the players who dare to participate in various competitions abroad, we have seen your efforts and you have made the nation proud; we recognise your efforts.”

Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) president Queen Siraki thanked the government for putting great effort into sports and especially President Samia Suluhu for motivating and honouring the sports sector in the country! Siraki also thanked the Prime Minister in recognition of the game of golf, but more for ladies and congratulated Madina who this year has won major tournaments in Kenya and Ghana.

Added: “This recognition is big and we don’t take it for granted! We are very grateful that for the first-time golf recognised with such a great magnitude! Let’s congratu- late ourselves for the efforts to take this game forward, but more to our players for giving up their personal time and assets and making efforts to win especially the international competitions!

“There has been a great effort put in by the unions and various golf clubs to promote this game and we are seeing the results!

“We are asking for support from the government, companies, institutions and all sports stakeholders so that we can go further!

There is a major competition ahead of us, the East and Central Africa Challenge Trophy starting 30th October to 4th November 2023 in Kigali, Rwanda so that can put the country into the spotlight,” she stressed.

Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) Chairman Gilman Kasiga said: “Madina and ladies in general are representing us very well.

We are grateful to the government for recognising that.” Madina said: “I am very happy that the government has recognised the efforts made by female golfers and the leaders of this game, recognising us will help motivate more to join the game and perform even better.
