Lugalo, Dar Gymkhana in 18-hole CRDB Golf battle

ALL is set as the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Golf Club take on their neighbouring Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) challenge in the CRDB Inter-Club Golf Championship.

The 18- hole challenge between two Dar es Salaam clubs will see each club represented by 40 top golfers who will compete in the match play  and better score’s stableford championship at Lugalo course.

Lugalo Club chairman, Michael Luwongo said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that preparations for the two-club showdown have been finalised and his team is ready to host their the epic showdown.

Luwongo said the competition aims to cement friendship and unity between the two clubs as well developing the game in Tanzania.

“My club is well prepared for the game, the course is in good condition, it is well prepared, so we expect to have a tough battle, ” he said.

Adding, he said the competition will involve players from all categories, but they invite even those who will not be able to compete.

He said when the two clubs meet in inter-club competitions, it is also a good opportunity for them to share experiences in dealing with the challenges of the game.

On his part, DGC captain Fred Laizer said he expects the battle to be tough due to the fact that most of the players know each other well.

Laizer noted many players are familiar figures in both clubs and therefore they play regularly, but there are also players who do not play much in DGC or Lugalo, so competitions like this are an important opportunity to bring them together.

He said if they are able to organize such competitions every three months, it will be better to also encourage players to play in the both courses.

He said the enthusiasm is great for the both clubs as the tournament is the catalyst for developing golf.
