Lindi to benefit from mega water project
THE government is planning to implement a mega water project worth 119bn/- in Ruangwa and Nachingwea districts, Lindi Region.
This was revealed on Friday by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, saying upon completion, the project will supply clean water to 34 villages of Ruangwa District and 21 others in Nachingwea District.
Premier Majaliwa disclosed the plan during an event to announce achievements recorded by Ruangwa District during the first two years of President Samia Suluhu Hassan in office.
He said the project will be constructed from Nyangao to Nanganga and Ruangwa before being connected to Chiola and Nachingwea.
“The contract has been signed already. Execution will start anytime soon,” he said, noting that President Samia is making huge efforts focusing on increasing the capacity of supplying water in all villages of the two districts.
Mr Majaliwa, who is also a Member of Parliament for Ruangwa constituency, informed members of the public on the achievements that have been recorded in the past two years.
According to him, a lot of achievements were attained in all sectors be it education, health, water,road infrastructure, minerals and sport.
On the education sector, Mr Majaliwa said the government managed to improve education infrastructure by building new primary and secondary schools as well as improving teaching and students’ performances in the final examinations.
According to him, the improvement in education infrastructure and teaching, enabled the performance of students in their national examinations to increase to 98 per cent.
Giving out details, Mr Majaliwa said there are some wards in Ruangwa constituency that have more than one secondary school.
A list has Likunja ward that has Likunja and Katandi secondary school as well as Narungombe where there is Liugulu Girls and Narungombe Boys’ Secondary Schools.
He also commended teachers and parents for controlling truancy and ensuring high discipline for students, a measure that has contributed in improving performances in their final exams.
“By doing this, we shall meet our target of increasing the performance of our children from the current 98 per cent to 100 per cent,” the PM confidently said.
For his part, a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ruling party CCM Abuu Jumaa asked parents to be careful in parenting and ensure their children are safe from acts of moral decay.
“Nowadays there is an alarming change that associated with acts of moral decay, I’m asking fellow parents in Ruangwa District to take very good care of our children,” he urged.
He also reminded the public of the need to continue taking precautionary measures against HIV/Aids, including engaging in drug abuse acts that are highly affecting the younger generation.
During the event, Deputy Minister for Health Dr Godwin Mollel handed over to the Lindi Regional Commissioner Zainab Tellack documents worth 2bn/- for procurement of medicine in all districts.
In the current fiscal year 2022/23, Lindi region was allocated with the budget for medicines and medical equipment amounting to 6bn/- whereas a total of 4bn/- has already been spent.
For his part, Deputy Minister of State in the President’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government) Dr Festo Dugange said the government has worked on the shortage of vehicles for the health sector in Ruangwa district council.
“The government has procured three vehicles For Ruangwa district Council, two of which re ambulances and one is specifically for distribution of vaccines,” he said.
According to him, the government has also allocated 67 health workers and 91 teachers for the district council.
