Lina PG Tour shifts dates, venue to Morogoro for season opener

DAR ES SALAAM: THE organisers of the Lina Professional Golfers (PG) Pro-Am Tour have announced a change in both the venue and the dates for the opening series of the tournament’s second season, just a week before the tee-off.

Originally scheduled to take place from February 20–23 at Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC), the first series will now be hosted at the Morogoro Gymkhana Golf Club in Morogoro region, running from February 27 to March 2, 2025.

Tournament Director Yasmin Chali confirmed the changes to ‘Daily News’ yesterday, stating:

“We would like to inform you that there has been a change in both the date and venue for the upcoming Lina PG Tour event.” She explained:

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have had to adjust both the location and the schedule of the tournament originally planned in Arusha from February 20th to 23rd.”

Despite the adjustments, Chali assured that preparations were progressing smoothly and encouraged golfers to continue registering via the tournament link.

Additionally, she announced that the registration deadline had been extended by a week, now set for February 20, 2025.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience these changes may cause and look forward to seeing you in Morogoro,” she added.

Chali also acknowledged the impact the rescheduling might have on participants, recognising the time and resources they had already committed.

“Our primary goal is to ensure an enjoyable and memorable experience. Your understanding and support during this time are truly invaluable to us. We look forward to delivering an exciting tournament as always.”

Launched last year, the Lina PG Tour is organised by the Said Nkya family in collaboration with the Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU), the Tanzania Professional Golfers Association (TPGA) and Penda Golf Tanzania.

The event honours the legacy of Lina Said Nkya, a former member of the national ladies’ golf team, who tragically passed away on January 19, 2021, in Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region.

The four-day 72-hole competition features local professionals and elite amateurs, with 52 subsidiary categories competing in a two-day 36-hole event.

“We look forward to welcoming you to what promises to be an exciting tournament, as we have always strived to deliver,” Chali added.

As in the previous edition, the tour will consist of five series held at various courses across the country, with top professionals and elite amateurs vying for a coveted golf trip to Dubai at the end of the year.
