Lina PG Tour heads to Morogoro course
MOROGORO: WIDELY regarded as one of the biggest golf competitions in the country Lina Professional Golf (PG) Tour ProAm Competition second edition is set to take Morogoro Gymkhana Club by storm next month.
The 72-hole stroke play tournament, organised by the Saidi Nkya family in collaboration with Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) scheduled to tee off from 11-14 April at the nine-hole brown Morogoro course.
It is organised exclusively for Tanzanian professionals and elite amateur golfers who battle it out for the cash prize money, while subsidiary categories battle for two-day 36 holes for the top honours.
Ayne Magombe a TLGU vice-president, said in Dar es Salaam on Friday that preparations for the event are on top gear. He said that after the successful first-ever event climax on March 3rd at the TPC Club course in Moshi, Kilimanjaro region they have now turned their sight to Morogoro showdown.
Magombe said that the hefty cash prize money awaits professionals and elite amateurs’ winners in Morogoro.
“I want to welcome all to the 2nd Edition of Lina PG Tour which will be held at Morogoro Golf Club. Magombe also stated that there are only 72 slots available for the subsidiary event (Saturday & Sunday and appealed for those who wished to participate to do so sooner than letter.
The tournament has been introduced to commemorate the late Lina Saidi Nkya, who passed away on January 19, 2021, in Moshi. The late Lina apart from being a golf player, was also a golf leader at national and club levels.
According to the Nkya family, the event has also been designed to boost and develop the game in the country through youths and give them a platform to showcase their talents and at the same time gain important experience so that they can be able to compete at top international competitions.
Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC) Nuru Mollel won the exciting first edition in a sudden-death playoff over close challenger Fadhili Nkya at the TPC Moshi course. Mollel claimed the 6.8m/- prize money for winning the pros title as second placed Fadhil of Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) awarded 4.3m/- after coming second.
For elite amateurs who are handicapped 5 and below golfers, an overall winner Ally Isanzu carded a total of 5 over to get 2.2m/-.
