Lightning kills 11-year girl in Rukwa

A STANDARD Two pupil, Elizabeth Migabo (11) died after being hit by lightning on Sunday night.

She was studying at Kanchui Primary School at Kabwe Ward along the shoreline of Lake Tanganyika in Nkasi District in Rukwa Region.

Elizabeth was struck by lightning while sleeping in her room beside mobile phone charger, which was left on without being connected to the gadget.

Rukwa Regional Police Commander (RPC) Mr Shadrack Masija confirmed that the incident occurred on last Sunday at around 1.00 am at Kanchui village.

Mr Gabriel Kimamala who is the uncle of the deceased girl said Elizabeth Elizabeth was sleeping beside the mobile phone charger, which was on. He said the lighting had damaged the garget.
