LEGISLATIVE ELECTION: CCM unveils candidates

DODOMA: THE ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) yesterday endorsed its parliamentary candidates who will represent the party in the October 2025 General Election.

The decision was reached during the meeting of the CCM National Executive Committee (NEC) held in Dodoma, where the main agenda focused on the nomination of legislative candidates who will compete in the parliamentary election for the seats in the Union Mainland and the House of Representatives in Zanzibar, including those contesting for Special Seats.

CCM Chairperson and President Samia Suluhu Hassan said the move was crucial to ensure the party fields strong and capable leaders committed to serving citizens with integrity and dedication.

“This step is important in guaranteeing that through our party we get the best candidates who will serve the people with passion, integrity and success once entrusted through the ballot box in the October 2025 General Election,” President Samia said.

Outgoing CCM Secretary for Ideology, Publicity and Training, Mr Amos Makalla, told reporters in Dodoma that the endorsed candidates were the outcome of the NEC deliberations chaired by President Samia.

“As you are aware, these meetings which began here in Dodoma from the Secretariat, the Central Committee and finally the NEC, had the major task of selecting parliamentary candidates for constituencies as well as those contesting for Special Seats representing regions and special groups,” Mr Makalla said.

He added that the NEC also concluded the nomination process of candidates who will vie for the legislative seats in the Zanzibar House of Representatives and its Special Seats, in line with the party’s constitution.

“As stipulated in our constitution, it is the NEC that makes the final approval of candidates who will contest the parliamentary and House of Representatives positions. That exercise has now been completed and CCM officially announces its candidates who will carry the party flag and seek the people’s mandate,” Mr Makalla said.

On Special Seats nominations, he explained that the party had given room for both first and runners-up in the primaries, urging those selected to actively participate in the campaigns.

“We call upon all those who have been nominated under Special Seats to engage fully in the campaigns to ensure victory for the party, so that they too can secure their seats,” he said.
