League round 2 under magnifier

FORTY goals have been scored at the climax of the NBC Premier League’s second round on Sunday night.

It is a coincidence that the second round also produced 20 goals just like what transpired in the first round as the league looks tough though still at infancy.

At the end of the second round Namungo’s hitman, Reliants Lusajo is at the top of the bar leading the scorers’ sheet with three goals to his name from the 180 minutes his team played while the last season’s top scorer George Mpole is yet to see the back of the net.

Simba are firm at the pilot seat courtesy of superior goal average as they have netted five goals in two matches and they are yet to concede a goal.

The Msimabazi Street Reds have begun the season stronger  and seem targeting to reclaim the league title they surrendered last season, though the race to the diadem has just begun.

Four goals were scored at Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha when Polisi Tanzania hosted KMC and the game ended in a 2-2 draw  being the only venue which recorded four-goal thriller.

However, Ihefu, Dodoma Jiji and Kagera Sugar are yet to stamp a win as they remain point-less after two league’s fixtures.

But they have 28 games remaining for them to make U-turn.

Another venue which produced a balance scoreline was Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam where hosts Azam were held to a 1-1 draw by Geita Gold which was a better outcome for the visitors after their 3-0 loss to Simba in the first round.

In retrospect, only three teams succeeded to stamp away wins in the second round; Young Africans, Tanzania Prisons and Namungo whereas Kagera Sugar, Mbeya City and Ruvu Shooting succumbed to away losses.

Meanwhile, the Premier League has been temporarily paused to allow Taifa Stars to engage in the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers as such; the league is expected to bounce back from September 6th this  year.

On the day, two venues will open the third round of the season with Geita Gold hosting Kagera Sugar while Yanga will host Azam at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, a match that seems to be the top order of the day.

Ahead of their meeting, both sides have not yet suffered a loss in the unfolding top flight league with Yanga winning their two away matches against Polisi Tanzania (2-1) and Coastal Union (2-0) while Azam won 2-1 against Kagera Sugar before a 1-1 draw with Geita Gold.
