Lawmakers approve initiatives to enhance communication sector
DAR ES SALAAM: THE Zanzibar House of Representatives’ Budget Committee has commended efforts by President Samia Suluhu Hassan and President Hussein Mwinyi for enabling more Tanzanians access communication services.
Chairperson of the committee, Ms Mwanaasha Juma pointed out that the two Presidents have assured improvements in communication infrastructures and ensured more Tanzanians benefit from the sector.
She expressed satisfaction over how the funds provided by the government to the Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation (TTCL) are being directed toward various development projects.
The committee also hailed the close partnership between the TTCL and the Zanzibar Information Communication Technology Infrastructure Agency (ZICTIA).
The committee made the statement recently during its visit to TTCL headquarters in Dar es Salaam, the Chairperson of the Committee Ms Juma stated that they visited the TTCL to get familiar with its operations and procedures, as well as to discuss ways to address challenges of the institution.
“We have learned a lot. Zanzibar’s Ministry of Construction, Communication and Transportation is responsible for overseeing ICT infrastructure and improving communication systems.

On the mainland, the Ministry of Information, Communication and Information Technology, through TTCL and other stakeholders, also ensure that communication services are further strengthened,” she said.
For his part, Director General of the TTCL, CPA Moremi Andrea, stated that the committee’s visit aimed to learn about the activities carried out by the corporation.
“We had the opportunity to present to the committee about our strategies and business plans. We have received directives that the management will work on.
We appreciate this visit, and we will continue to collaborate with our counterparts in Zanzibar to enhance the communication sector,” he said.
