DAR ES SALAAM: LAND Force was crowned the 2024 CDF Cup football champion after a dramatic final match against JKT, held recently at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The match, which showcased both teams’ exceptional defensive skills, ended in a 0-0 draw after regular time.
The winner was ultimately decided by a penalty shootout, with Land Force emerging victorious by a score of 4-3.
The CDF Cup, which began on July 20, was part of the broader celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the Tanzanian Defence Forces (TPDF).
General Jacob Mkunda, the TPDF Chief of Defence Forces, who attended the final expressed his gratitude to sports stakeholders, including Azam TV and other media outlets, for their support which has made the event a success.

The tournament featured a variety of military units, including the National Service (JKT), Air Force, Land Force, DFHQ (NGOME) and the Navy.
It served not only as a competitive event but also as a platform for showcasing the skills and spirit of the Tanzanian military.
The CDF Cup’s primary objectives are to promote health and foster unity among TPDF soldiers as the event brings together personnel from all commands across the country from officers, soldiers and public servants to enhance their health and strengthen unity, cooperation and cohesion.
In addition to football, the tournament featured nine other sports: netball, volleyball, handball, basketball, boxing and shooting with teams from Headquarters Command, Army Command, Air Force Command, Navy Command, Reserve Force Command and National Service Command participating.
