Lack of PF3 form delays treatment of accident victims

Accident

THE treatment of many victims of accidents in hospitals are normally delayed due to lack of the vital PF3, because most of the medics and nurses are reluctant to provide healthcare without the document.

This concern was raised in the House of Representatives by backbencher Ms Salha Mwijuma who asked the government to ensure that lack of PF3 does not delay treatment of victims of accidents, because the situation causes deaths.

Revision of Police Form 3 (PF3) is used to document physical or other injuries and it is completed by a police officer and a Health Practitioner, and that is usually demanded by hospital staff to clear the way for treatment.

In response to the concerns, State Minister- Office of the Second Vice President (Coordination, Policy and House of Representatives), Mr Hamza Hassan Juma, who is also responsible for ‘Police services’ said: “There is no way a sick person, including victims of accident be denied treatment because of lack of PF3.”

He said his office will be working with the ministry of health to educate medical staff on the importance of providing healthcare without PF3 and that the document can be provided later.

“We must remind health practitioners about the importance of treating people without any obstacles,” he said.
