Kwala Dry Port performance impresses TANTRADE officials

KIBAHA: A group of 50 staff from the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TANTRADE), led by Deputy Director General Freddy Liundi, visited Kwala Dry Port to observe and learn about various port operations.
The visit focused on understanding the port’s operational systems, cargo handling procedures, and identifying opportunities to enhance international trade through the facility.
Kwala Dry Port, located in Vigwaza, Kibaha, Coast Region, covers an area of 502 hectares. Of this, 120 hectares have been developed, including 60 hectares that have been leveled and secured with a 2.96-kilometer fence. An additional 5 hectares have been constructed with a concrete surface to facilitate cargo handling activities.

Currently, the port accommodates 1 to 2 trains per day, with a storage capacity of 3,500 cargo containers at a time. Kwala Dry Port is expected to reduce congestion at the Dar es Salaam Port by 30 percent.
Furthermore, the port has the capacity to handle an average of 823 containers per day, equivalent to 300,000 containers per year, highlighting its importance in facilitating international trade and supporting economic activities in Pwani Region.
