Kopunovic seeks competitive Pamba Jiji squad

MWANZA: PAMBA Jiji FC has finalised the registration of 24 players for the upcoming Premier League 2024/25 season with Coach Goran Kopunovic emphasising the need to bolster the squad with six high-quality players capable of competing at the top flight league level.

The Mwanza based side Serbian tactician has expressed satisfaction at the current roster of 24 players, selected from numerous trials since his arrival at the club in early July.

Kopunovic outlined his strategy, stating that the initial squad of 24 players will commence the season, with the possibility of recruiting additional players later if necessary.

He emphasised the importance of discipline and understanding among the players, indicating potential adjustments in the January transfer window.

“We are still looking for quality players in some positions, a team of 24 players is enough to begin with and then we will see what will happen in the first round, what I want in the team is discipline and knowing the players and then we will look at maybe in January transfer window to make some changes,” he said.

The coach highlighted the retention of seven players from the previous season, alongside the announcement of 17 new signings. Despite these developments, Kopunovic stressed the ongoing pursuit of high-calibre players to reinforce the squad immediately.

Acknowledging the challenges of transitioning to the Premier League, Kopunovic underlined the significance of building a competitive team that plays modern football to ensure sustainability in the league.

He assured the club and fans of his commitment to preparing the team effectively, aiming to deliver a style of football that aligns with contemporary standards.

“Everyone should understand that the Championship and the Premier League are two different things, for a new team entering the Premier League is a big test and we should be very careful. We must have a competitive team and play modern football in order to keep the team in the Premier League,” he said.
