Kombo notes TCCIA’s efforts in driving Tanzania’s economic diplomacy

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, has hailed the performance of the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA), labeling it a key driver in enhancing the country’s economic diplomacy.

Ambassador Kombo said that during the opening of TCCIA’s Special General Meeting in Dar es Salaam late yesterday.

He said that despite TCCIA’s significant contribution to promoting trade, the institution has missed several key international opportunities, and that it is now the right time for TCCIA to reorganize itself and become a strong bridge between the private sector and the government by attracting investment, expanding export markets, fostering international partnerships, and promoting the use of modern technologies.

Furthermore, Minister Kombo urged TCCIA to serve as an advisor to the government on international trade matters, lead business delegations abroad, and provide accurate information on global markets.

He noted that his Ministry would continue to work closely with TCCIA through the economic diplomacy platform, linking the institution with various international trade and investment forums.

In addition, the Minister commended TCCIA for taking steps to amend its Constitution and urged its leaders to strengthen the organization’s role in advancing economic diplomacy. He emphasized that the private sector is the main engine for achieving the National Development Vision 2050 and pledged continued cooperation between his Ministry and TCCIA in implementing strategies to grow the economy through economic diplomacy.

For his part, TCCIA President Mr. Vicent Minja said the special meeting, among other matters, discussed and reviewed the Chamber’s Constitution to align it with current needs and changes.

Mr. Minja added that the reform process aims to ensure inclusive participation of all social groups, particularly youth, women, and persons with disabilities,s in various leadership positions within TCCIA.
