KMC keen to regain glorious era

AfTER narrowly escaping relegation, Kinondoni Municipal Council (KMC) are now fortified for the 2023/24 season.

The club’s goal in the coming season is to represent the country in the CAF Confederation  Cup like they did in the past three seasons.

KMC had a successful season in 2018/19, finishing fourth in the Mainland Premier League behind Azam, Young Africans and Simba.

The Kinondoni Municipality Mayor Songoro Mnyonge revealed the club’s plan shortly before signing with ex-Azam FC instructor Abdi Moallin as Head Coach.

The Mayor disclosed they had signed a one-year contract that he will serve for the 2023/24 season.

“The reason for bringing a new coach is to build a quality team for the 2023/2024 season.

“We are determined to have a solid squad that will impose challenges in the coming season, for we aim to retain the past glory when we triumphed in the league and excelled in CAF inter-club competitions.

“To reach the goal, we will have to go through changes that require the services of an instructor who will bring us to the quality we aim for. It is why we have hired Abdi Moallin as Head Coach.”

Moallin has taken over as the new coach, replacing Jamhuri Kihwelo. Kihwelo assumed the role after the dismissal of coach Thiery Hitimana and his entire technical staff due to their poor performance before the end of the season.

During his time, Kihwelo fought bravely for his team to avoid relegation to the Championship.

Following his achievement, the Mayor lauded his contribution but noted that they replaced Kihwelo for the transformation of the club.

According to the Mayor, Moallin’s advantage lies in his age, energy, and experience. They believe these qualities will be valuable in building a strong and modern team for the coach, who is both youth and experienced.

According to the Mayor’s announcement to the press, KMC fans will soon receive updates on new club players and improvements to the squad and technical bench, for the coach has already made a pact with the club.

Additionally, he mentioned that they will soon disclose the date and location of their preseason camp.
