Kiswahili language, Singeli music make sky-high leap globally

DODOMA: THE Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, Methusela Ntonda, said the global recognition of Kiswahili Language is among the significant achievements the ministry has recorded for the 2025/26 financial year.
He said the recognition of Kiswahili as one of UNESCO’s official languages in November 2025, the designation of Singeli music as part of the World Heritage, and public awareness initiatives on the history of Africa’s liberation are among the items that marveled Tanzanian art and culture globally.
Ntonda made these remarks today while inaugurating the Staff Council at the Ministry’s hall in Mtumba, Dodoma, urging the newly elected council members to perform their duties efficiently and with integrity to deliver positive outcomes on behalf of the Ministry’s staff.
On the sports front, Ntonda highlighted several accomplishments, including securing hosting rights for CHAN 2025, the construction and renovation of football and training facilities, and the successes achieved by national teams. He added that these achievements form part of the preparations for AFCON 2027, which Tanzania will host.

Additionally, Director of Administration and Human Resource Management, Savera Kazaura, congratulated the council leaders and elected members, calling on the Ministry’s management and department heads to provide full cooperation to enable the effective execution of their responsibilities.
The meeting also included presentations on various reports, including the 2025/26 financial year budget review, proposed allocations for the 2026/27 financial year, and the election of council leadership.
