Kisoma achieves pro athletic status in UAE

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES: MWAHIJA Kisoma has advanced her Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) journey by successfully competing in the Spartan Super 10K Race in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

This event, which featured a 10-kilometre course with 25 obstacles, marked a significant milestone in her career as she secured her third participation and earned the prestigious Trifecta status.

This accomplishment places her among thousands of elite runners globally who have achieved this prestigious distinction.

Kisoma’s success not only showcases her dedication but also serves as an inspiration to the next generation of Tanzanian athletes.

Scope Event general secretary Abdallah Chapa organisers of the Kisoma trip lauded the athlete’s achievements, noting her impressive representation of Tanzania at the World Championship 2024 in Abu Dhabi.

Competing as the country’s sole representative, Kisoma balanced her role as an accomplished OCR athlete and Assistant Lecturer at Mzumbe University in Morogoro.

In the Spartan Super 10K Race over the weekend, Kisoma achieved remarkable results.

She placed 5th in the female age group (30–34) among 31 participants, 15th place overall among 183 female competitors and 187th place out of 816 participants across all genders. She completed the race in an impressive time of 2:04:10.

Kisoma became the first-ever East African Community (EAC) athlete to achieve the Spartan Trifecta, a significant milestone for Tanzanian sports.

Her success opens doors for other Tanzanian athletes to participate in international competitions, with prospects of qualifying for global events such as the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, particularly in Modern Pentathlon, which incorporates OCR.

The tournament brought together top athletes worldwide, with Africa represented by Tanzania and South Africa.

Kisoma flew the Tanzanian flag high, completing the challenging 21-kilometre course with 30 obstacles in 3:40:45, earning 19th place among 23 professional competitors. She also finishes 39th place overall out of over 300 participants.

The Tanzanian competed among the world’s prominent athletes such as Eva Van Ee (Netherlands), Caria Mochila (USA), Meng Chiu Ho (Taipei) and Alona Ilchenko (UAE).

Kisoma also competed in the women-only Spartan Night Sprint, a 5-kilometre race featuring 20 obstacles. She is placed 42nd out of 323 participants globally and  ninth among 61 participants in the female 30–34 age group.

Following her success in Abu Dhabi, Kisoma is set to compete in another world event in Dubai, scheduled for December 5–8, 2024.
