Kinondoni spurs fan turnout with 2,000 tickets for Stars clash

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Kinondoni District Council has pledged to provide 2,000 free tickets and 1,000 jerseys to residents in support of the Taifa Stars ahead of their opening match against Burkina Faso in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Kinondoni District Commissioner (DC), Saad Mtambule, announced on Thursday at a press conference in Dar es Salaam that the initiative aims to boost fan turnout and energise the players as they begin their campaign on home soil.

“Our goal is to ensure that Kinondoni residents come out in large numbers to support our national team,” said Mtambule.

“It is a great honour for Tanzania to host this prestigious tournament, reflecting the respect our nation has earned through the exemplary leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan and the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF).” As part of the mobilisation efforts for the CHAN finals kick-off, the district has organised a community walk and fitness event expected to attract over 2,000 participants.

The day will start with physical exercises and light jogging from the Kinondoni Municipal Complex, followed by a friendly match featuring veteran players. Participants will then walk together to the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium to cheer on the national team.

Further, DC Mtambule underscored the economic potential of the tournament, noting its positive impact on tourism, food vendors, hotel services and job creation, particularly for young people in the district.

“The CHAN tournament is not just about football it’s an economic opportunity for our community,” he stressed.

On the occasion, TFF Communications Officer, Clifford Ndimbo, echoed the call for unity and nationwide support, urging Tanzanians to attend in large numbers.

“This is our tournament and our players need the motivation, spirit and backing of the fans. Now is the time to show patriotism and lift our team with unwavering support,” said Ndimbo.
