DAR ES SALAAM: A CALL has been made for young women to seize an opportunity to participate in the Miss Kinondoni Beauty Pageant 2024, which was launched on Sunday in Dar es Salaam.
The beauty pageant is being held in Kinondoni to select a representative for Miss Tanzania.
The launch event was attended by various Bongo Flava and movie celebrities, as well as beauty and fashion models. Young women who are interested in participating in the contest have been urged to register.
At the launch event, a senior officer from the National Arts Council, Augustine Makame, who represented the Executive Secretary of the council, commended the organisers of the Miss Kinondoni competition for raising the status of the beauty pageant and improving it from previous years.
He also acknowledged the Miss Tanzania organisers for their initiative in managing the competition, which brings together young women from all over the country to compete for the Miss Tanzania title crown.
This year’s Miss Tanzania motto is ‘Beauty and Leadership’. The aim is to honour the beauty pageant contestants who have held several leadership positions in the government.
Makame named some of the former Miss Tanzania beauties who are holding various positions in the government and the ruling party CCM as Miss Tanzania 1999, Hoyce Temu, who is currently the Deputy Head of the Tanzania Mission in Geneva, Switzerland.
The others are Jokate Mwegelo who is currently the Secretary General of the CCM Women’s Wing (UWT) and Iringa Regional Commissioner, Halima Dendegu who can inspire other young women to engage in the beauty pageant due to their success.
According to the 2024 Miss Kinondoni beauty pageant competition organiser, Queen Johnson, the event is expected to be staged on May 11th this year.
Johnson requested beauty and fashion stakeholders to come out in large numbers to support this year’s competition to promote the beauty industry in the country.
