KILIMANJARO Regional Commissioner (RC) Nurdin Babu

MOSHI: KILIMANJARO Regional Commissioner (RC) Nurdin Babu on Wednesday joined residents of the region in electing Local Government leaders as part of the nationwide election exercise.

M Babu cast his vote at the Makongoro polling station in Moshi District’s Kilimanjaro Ward. Arriving early, he queued alongside other voters, verified his name on the voter list and exercised his constitutional right to vote.

After voting, Mr Babu expressed satisfaction with the high voter turnout and urged citizens to maintain peace throughout the process.

“I am happy to participate in this exercise, which is a fundamental constitutional right for all Tanzanians. I encourage everyone to vote and then return home to await the results peacefully,” he said.

The RC was accompanied by Kilimanjaro Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS), Kiseo Nzowa and Moshi District Commissioner James Kaji, who also cast their votes at polling stations in the area.

Moshi Municipal Council Director (MD), Mwajuma Nasombe confirmed that the election commenced at 8:00 a.m as planned and proceeded smoothly. Ms Nasombe, who voted at Moshi Chapel polling station, urged voters to leave polling stations after voting, emphasising that vote protection is the responsibility of political party agents.

“There is no need to remain at the polling station after voting. Each participating political party has an appointed agent to oversee the process,” she said.

In Siha District, District Commissioner, Dr Christopher Timbuka noted a high turnout, particularly among young voters, who arrived early at polling stations. “The strong participation reflects the success of voter mobilisation efforts for this year’s elections,” he remarked.

Similarly, Same District Commissioner, Kasilda Mgeni commended voters for adhering to instructions to vote and leave polling stations, allowing for smooth operations.

“The practice of returning home after voting ensures that polling stations remain orderly and accessible, encouraging more people to vote without unnecessary delays,” Ms Mgeni observed.

She added that this behaviour prevents congestion and reduces the risk of some voters leaving without casting their votes.

The election exercise in Kilimanjaro Region proceeded peacefully, with high levels of participation and organisation reported across districts.
