KenGold’s coach reflects on hard-fought league win

MBEYA: KENGOLD Assistant Coach, Omary Kapilima  has shared his thoughts after their narrow but crucial 1-0 win over Kagera Sugar, emphasising that teamwork played a key role in securing the three points as the team battles to stay in the Premier League.

The match’s only goal came in the 82nd minute, when Mishamo Daudi tapped in a perfectly timed pass from Seleman Bwenzi, just moments before the game’s conclusion.

Kapilima acknowledged the fierce competition, praising his players for their resilience and solid performance.

“It was a tough match and the opposition made it difficult for us throughout, but the team showed great character and determination to earn the three points that were important. However, we know we still have work to do and I am proud of how the boys handled the pressure and got the result,” Kapilima said.

He also expressed gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support at home, noting how their presence motivated the team.

“Our fans have been so good and amazing to us. Their support gives us the confidence to keep pushing and stay focused on keeping the team at the top,” Kapilima added.

Lupa constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Masache Kasaka, a prominent local supporter of KenGold, also commented on the win.

“We have seen a lot of positive energy in the second round of matches and I am confident KenGold can continue to deliver. Today’s win was a big boost. I will ensure the fans stay motivated and will even organise transport to support the team in future games,” Kasaka pledged.

The victory is a crucial moment in the season, as KenGold is fighting to stay in the Premier League and avoid relegation. Meanwhile, Kagera Sugar’s Assistant Coach, Themi Felix, took full responsibility for his team’s loss, acknowledging the mistakes made during the match.

“We did not perform to the standard we expect and the errors we made cost us, but we will work hard to correct them as we believe in this team. We will come back stronger.”

As things stand, KenGold remain at the bottom of the Mainland Premier League log, with 13 points from 20 matches, while Kagera Sugar are just two points ahead with 15 points from the same number of games and both sides still settling in the relegation zone.
