Katavi residents support initiative to construct modern police station

RESIDENTS of Tongwe Ward in Tanganyika District, Katavi Region have supported the government efforts to build modern police station by either contributing cash or through self-reliance spirit.

Member of Parliament for Mpanda Rural Constituency, Mr Seleman Kakoso handed over 50 bags of cement valued 1.0m/- to Tanganyika District Commissioner (DC) Mr Onesmo Buswelu for the construction of the project.

The DC directed the chairman of construction project Mr Ramadhan Nyembe to ensure the fund is utilized on the intended project and not otherwise. He warned that whoever would be implicated on swindling the fund must face the full force of law.

He also lauded ‘wananchi’ and various stakeholders, who contributed to the construction of the project.

Initially, the MP’s Secretary Mr Said Wambari sad the office of the lawmaker (Mr Kakoso) decided to augment the citizens, stakeholders  and government efforts on building the modern police station at the area to ensure protection of people and their property.

On his part, project coordinator Mr Nyembe said the construction of the project has reached foundation level.

“Wananchi contributed cash, bags of cements, iron bars as well as volunteering work forces,” he added.

He assured the DC that the funds contributed by wananchi and various stakeholders would be channeled to the intended project.

A cross section of villagers separately interviewed by this paper confided that upon completion of the project will help to them to live peacefully.

“It is our hope that upon completion of the project it will be easier for us to report criminal incidents  as previous we were compelled to trek long distance covering 10 kilometers from the village to reach police station ” John Adam noted.
