Katavi RC angered by water project delays

KATAVI Regional Commissioner (RC) citterly expressed her dismay over the delay of construction of 2.8bn/- Senkwa water dam which has taken over five years now.

Hemtake Investment Ltd based in Dar es Salaam was contracted to undertake the construction of Senkwa Dam at the cost of about 3bn/-.

The construction works started on August 03, 2018 and it was scheduled to be completed on September,2019.

The RC bitterly expressed dissatisfaction with the slow speed of the project implementation as the contractor had failed to abide by the contractual terms thus delaying the project for five years

Equally, she called on the Ministry of Water to review the contractual terms of the project contractor in efforts to address the hiccups.

“The Ministry of Water should have a solution over the delay of the project also RUWASA in Mlele District must make close supervision to address the challenged afflicting the progress of the much – awaited project’ emphasised the RC.

Additionally, the RC  issued 48 hour for the contractor to mobilize all requisite construction equipments to the construction site short of that the contractor will face the wrath of law

” If the contractor defies my directive, I’m instructing OCD to track down the defiant contractor and arrest him wherever he will be found and must face the consequence.” directed the regional boss.

Ms Mrindoko split fire yesterday shortly after she toured and inspected the progress of implementation of the project in Mlele District .

She equally pointed finger at the Rural and Urban Water Supply Agency (RUWASA) as another obstacle to the timely completion of the project because several letters has been written to former since 2018,alerting over the challenges afflicting the project but to date it was never responded.

” This is my fourth tour to this site I’m shocked to discover the contractor continue exercising gross laxity … I’m strongly warning the contractor to shun from issuing unnecessary excuses which cause delay of the water project for over five years which is contrary to the contractual terms ” she vowed.

” The delay of the project for over five years is unacceptable as it has had denied population of citizens dwelling in 16 villages to get access to clean,safe and sufficient water supply” the remarked.

RUWASA Mlele District Manager,Engineer Gilbert Issac clarified that already the contractor had been paid 1.9bn/- saying upon completion the project will have the capacity to harvest over two billion liters of water supply annually.
