THE Women’s National Team, ‘Twiga Stars’ forward Enekia Kasonga Lunyamila, has explained that the victory against Comoros on Friday was due to the teamwork among the players.

“The match was perfect. Our victory was due to each player taking responsibility effectively, and we won. It was the first game; it was intense, especially in the first half. Later we settled down and got a win, three points and three goals.

” Twiga Stars destroyed Comoros 3-0 in the ongoing COSAFA Women’s Cup tournament at NMU Madibaz Stadium in Port Elizabeth. Donisia Minja and Lunyamila gave goals for Tanzania. The victory secured Tanzania three crucial points and led group C. At the same venue, Botswana met with Malawi and ended with a 1-1 draw. After the encounter, the Head Coach, Shime, hailed his players’ performance.

“I want to congratulate our girls on their today’s performance. The match was tough; we met a strong opponent who played well and gave us a hard time in the first 10-15 minutes of the first half. However, we saw their weakness and took advantage of their mistakes.”

Shime explained that it was an excellent experience to play against Comoros, a team they had not played with before. He added such an experience improves the quality of his team.

On their next match against Malawi, he remarked that they will have another strategy as Comoros are different from Malawi, and each side has its strength. “We played against Comoros; we knew nothing about them…the next game will be against Malawi.

I hope we will change our game strategy according to our next opponent. We are here to compete and perform well in each game. We will automatically win the title if we do well in each.”

The Comoro Head Coach Pascal Koutala said he is proud of their ladies’ performance despite losing against title defenders, Twiga Stars.
