Kariakoo Building Collapse: Police arrest property owner

DAR ES SALAAM: The Chief Government Spokesperson and Director of Information Services, Mr Thobias Makoba, has announced that the owner of the building that collapsed in Kariakoo nine days ago has been arrested.

Responding to a journalist’s question about the owner’s status, Mr. Makoba emphasized that the matter remains under investigation and that further updates will be provided by the police upon the completion of the investigation.

“Since this is an ongoing investigation, the police will provide further updates. Let us not compromise the investigation. Please note that the investigative commission is already at work,” Mr Makoba stated.

As of November 23, Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) David Misime confirmed that progress was being made and that a detailed report on the investigation would be released soon.

“I order that the owner of this building be found and brought in to explain why it collapsed. They must appear before the investigative commission established to examine this incident,” the Premier instructed following the disaster.
