‘Search for Kariakoo building owner, kidnap attempt masterminds on track’

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Police Force said yesterday that the investigation to identify the owner of the collapsed building in Kariakoo business hub and the case involving the attempted kidnapping of businessman Deogratius Tarimo is progressing well.

According to the statement released by the Police spokesman, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) David Misime, the full report on the ongoing investigation will be released soon to the public.

He said there have been numerous inquiries and comments from journalists and the public seeking information on the progress of the two incidents.

He explained that the incidents include the case of businessman Deogratius Tarimo, who was targeted at Kiluvya area on November 11, 2024, in Dar es Salaam and another incident involving the owner(s) of the building that collapsed at Kariakoo on November 16, 2024.

“The investigations into both cases are progressing well and a full report will be availed to the public soon,” said ACP Misime in a statement. Following the collapse of the building at Kariakoo recently, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa ordered the Police Force to locate the building’s owner for interrogation so that he/she could assist in the investigation.

“I hereby order that the owner of this building be located and brought in to explain why the building collapsed. They will explain before the commission that has been constituted to investigate this incident,” the Premier instructed after the incident occurred.

A number of leaders including President Samia Suluhu Hassan visited the accident site in Kariakoo and Muhimbili National Hospital to wish well the injured who are undergoing treatment at the health facility.

The rescue operations continued yesterday with efforts focusing on removing the rubble, debris and other materials from the collapsed building.
