Karamagi conferred doctorate degree at 76, urges unity

BUKOBA: KAGERA Regional CCM Chairman, Nazir Karamagi (76), has disproved the belief held by some people that education is only reserved for the young, after being conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business and Economics from Atlantic International University in the State of Hawaii.

“Education has no boundaries. I have pursued the PhD programme for the past three years. I thank God that at last, I have achieved my dreams,” he said.

He urged young people currently in colleges to study diligently and focus on achieving their ambitions through commitment and hard work.

Meanwhile, Mr Karamagi has encouraged citizens to uphold patriotism and preserve national peace, stressing that unity must remain a guiding national principle.

Equally, he called on the public to reject any actions or statements that may signal threats to national stability.

He emphasised that the government does not restrict participation in political gatherings but encourages citizens to critically assess whether political rhetoric aligns with the values of peace championed by the country’s founding leaders.

Mr Karamagi highlighted that President Samia Suluhu Hassan has transformed the country’s economy, with the GDP rising from 69.7 billion US dollars in 2021 to 85.42 billion US dollars in 2023.

“President Samia has made great strides in improving the lives of Tanzania’s citizens. Tanzania’s economy has seen exponential growth. Her commitment to reforming agriculture and education, as well as facilitating trade and investment, has been instrumental in driving this growth. Most importantly, President Samia has maintained strong public support, which is essential for sustaining economic progress,” Mr Karamagi said.

Adding further, he noted: “The country’s economic growth has been impressive, and it is expected to continue as a reckoning force in the East African region. President Samia has been credited with implementing policies that have helped improve the country’s economy since assuming leadership following the passing of the late President John Magufuli.” Elaborating, he said President Samia has worked to expand access to education and healthcare, reduce poverty and enhance infrastructure development.

These efforts, he hinted, have contributed to making Tanzania one of the fastest-growing economies in Africa.
