DAR ES SALAAM: THE Kampala International University Tanzania Campus (KIUT) volleyball women’s team defeated Tanzania Prisons 3-1 to win the Dar es Salaam Regional Volleyball Association (DAREVA) Serie A League phase two in style.
The KIUT team defeated one of Tanzania’s premier women’s prisons in the phase two group final game held over the weekend at the KIUT pitch in Gongo la Mboto, Dar es Salaam.
They were unstoppable in the league, securing their berth in the national tournament later this year.
KIUT started well, winning the first set 25-16, but Tanzania Prisons improved their game and even the score in the second set with an outstanding 25-12.
The victors had to revenge mistakes in order to improve their game, and they came back stronger after hitting 25-18 in the third set and 25-23 in the fourth to secure a 3-1 triumph.
The victory puts KIUT at the top of the women’s Serie A rankings, with 28 points from 10 games in a field of six clubs.

KIUT conceded only one game in the league’s two legs, leaving their nearest rival JKT with a point advantage.
JKT finished second in the rankings with 22 points after nine games, while Tanzania Prisons, in third place with 13 points, played eight games.
Jeshi Stars, who have played 9 matches, are in fourth place with 12 points, followed by Star Girls in fifth place with 6 points, and Chui in last place, having yet to earn points from 9 outings.
In the women’s Serie B, Bandari ended first with 28 points, Tai came in second with 26 points, and Wazo finished third with 14 points, as did UDSM in fourth.
In the competition of six teams, Unnie Queens is in fifth place, having received four points as bottom side Twalipo.
Four top Serie A clubs from each gender will advance to the national level competition, while the lowest teams will be demoted to Serie B, if appropriate.
The winners in both men’s and women’s Serie B categories will advance into Serie A two.
