Kagera RC welcomes victorious JKT Queens

KAGERA : KAGERA Regional Commissioner, Fatma Mwassa on Thursday led hundreds of Kagera football fans to welcome home the CECAFA Women’s Football champions, JKT Queens upon their arrival from Kampala, Uganda where they emerged victorious.

Projestus Rubanzibwa, who represented the RC to welcome the team in Bukoba Municipality, honoured the team with a great reception for the achievement.

“On behalf of the Kagera Regional Commissioner, Fatma Mwassa and all Tanzanians I commend the players and officials for winning the CECAFA title. The teamwork and dedication enabled the ladies to bring honour to the country,” he noted.

Before their departure to Kampala a few weeks ago, Mwassa tasked the team to bring home the trophy and also conducted special prayers for them.

JKT Queens Head Coach, Esther Chaburuma said close cooperation between players and officials enabled the team to emerge winners in the tournament.

“Although we managed to win the four matches in the competition the final against CBE of Ethiopia was very tough. We were forced to play our hearts out,” she said.

In the final game, JKT Queens edged CBE Queens of Ethiopia 5-4 on penalties.

Earlier, JKT Queens defeated Buja Queens from Burundi 3-1 to stride into the CAF Women’s CECAFA Women’s Qualifiers final at FTC Njeru Stadium.

JKT Queens made a short stopover in Bukoba on their way to Dodoma where they will today hand the glimmering trophy to the Speaker of the National Assembly Tulia Ackson, who presides over a unicameral assembly of 393 members.
