Kagera RC urges parents to invest in education

KAGERA: KAGERA Regional Commissioner (RC) Ms Fatma Mwassa has urged parents in the country to invest in education noting that education is the only valuable heritage a parent can give to his/her child.

Equally, she tasked them (parents) to ensure proper child upbringing while still at tender age.

Missenyi District Commissioner (DC) Col Wilson Sakulo made the remarks recently on behalf of Ms Mwassa when he was chief guest at the Form Four   graduation ceremony at Kaizirege and Kemebos English Medium Schools, a few kilometres from Bukoba Municipal Council.

“We should all take responsibility in moulding our children to become good citizens and future leaders. All regional, council and religious leaders, parents and guardians have a role to play in ensuring children are safe and are getting access to education, including stopping the increasing acts of moral decay,” he said.

“It is unfortunate that we, the parents, have relieved ourselves from the duty of raising our children, that’s why many acts of brutality happen at our homes. We have left children to raise themselves, that’s why it becomes easier for them to fall into the traps of ill-mannered and bad people, some ending up being raped,” he said.

Col Sakulo also welcomed investors both local and foreign assuring them that the region was ripe for such investments noting that the government was implementing mega projects including improved tarmac roads and the MV Mwanza Hapa Kazi Tu steamer to ease transportation of people and goods.

Equally, he urged people where such investments will be made to ensure that they are safeguarded.

“We thank President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan for the efforts in implementing people-oriented projects. Private sector should tap conducive environment for doing business through construction of industries, Five Star Hotels and other key sectors including agriculture which employs most of the people,” he said.

Mr Sakulo hailed the founder and Managing Director of the schools, Mr Eusto Ntagalinda Kaizirege, for his commitment to support government efforts in improving the education sector.

“I hail Mr Kaizirege for his commitment to support government efforts in improving the education sector. The two schools are an icon while the investments have created employment opportunities and also paid   taxes to the government coffers.  I also invite other investors to emulate his example,” he said.
