Kadogosa orders the contractor of 73km Kahama–Kakola road to complete the project by Dec 2026

KAHAMA: THE Minister for Works, Masanja Kadogosa has ruled out a deadline extension for the contractor building the 73-kilometre Kahama–Bulyanhulu Junction–Kakola road, warning of possible exclusion from future government tenders if the project is not completed by December 2026.

The minister issued the ultimatum during an inspection of the project in Msalala, Kahama District, Shinyanga Region, where he found that construction had reached 90.17 per cent, falling behind the planned progress of 97.02 per cent.

Additionally, Kadogosa directed the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), to increase equipment, resources and working hours to complete the remaining work within the contractual deadline.

He warned that failure to meet the deadline would trigger contractual measures, including possible disqualification from participating in other government projects, in accordance with applicable procedures.

“I do not want to see negligence on this road. I want assurance that the contract will be completed within the agreed period. I will not extend the deadline,” he said.

The minister also ordered the contractor to return, within 30 days, all equipment taken to Arusha from a project it was implementing in Njombe Region. He said he would inspect the machinery to verify that it had been returned and was being properly used on the road project.

Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) Shinyanga Regional Manager, Engineer Ntuli Mwaikokesya, said the project has fallen 6.85 percentage points behind schedule, with actual progress at 90.17 per cent against the planned 97.02 per cent at the time of inspection.

He said the contractor needed to accelerate the outstanding works to ensure the road was completed within the contractual timeframe.
