Joti, Mkojani excel in 2023 Tanzania Film Festival Awards

DAR ES SALAAM: RENOWNED comedian Lucas Mhavile alias Joti was in a jovial mood after clinching the Best Comedy Award during the 2023 Tanzania Film Festival Awards held at the Superdome in Masaki, Dar es Salaam over the weekend.

It was a day to remember key players in the Film industry who were awarded for the good works they do to push the entertainment sector forward.

Speaking after being awarded, Joti said he was pleased that his film emerged the winner in that category insisting that the award has given him motivation to do much better next year.

“It is a big honour and I am thankful to all Tanzanians for their support, they should be ready to experience big things next year as long as we stay alive,” he said.

He won the Best Comedy accord courtesy of his entertaining ‘Maharage ya Mbeya’ film.

Immediately after being declared the winner, his supporters invaded the stage as they carried him to show their excitement to their star who is doing well in the comedy sector.

The Best Comedian award went to Abdallah Nzunda commonly known as ‘Mkojani’ who managed to embrace it twice in a row after doing the same last year.

“I am happy for winning this award twice in a row…it is not easy to make people laugh especially in these difficult days but thank God, I have made it…this award will make me curious to retain it next year inshallah,” Mkojani said.

Others who went away with awards on the day include Hakeem Juma who clinched the Best Actor award for the film titled Dhohari, Jennifer Kyaka grabbed the Best Actress Audience Choice award while Love Transfusion claimed Best Cinematography and Best Screen Play respectively.

In his closing remarks, the board’s Executive Secretary Kiagho Kilonzo thanked all those who made the ceremony colourful, while pledging to work on the setbacks that erupted.

In every occasion, some challenges emerge and we promise to work on them so that next year, things should be much better than this year,” Kilonzo said.

He then encouraged those who did not win any award that they should not lose hope but rather put on fighting and working hard to stand a winning opportunity during next year’s edition.

He also assured people that the whole exercise to find winners in each category is performed by competent judges who have been in the game for a long time and are aware of what to do.

“Even myself I have known here together with you about these people who have won, I do not get results beforehand as such, you can see that they do professionally conduct their jobs and you need to keep trusting them,” he said.
