JNICC braces for the National Law Symposium

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Government Lawyers’ Association of Tanzania (GLO) has announced that the National Law Symposium will take place tomorrow, June 21, 2025, at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam.
Speaking to the press, GLO President Bavoo Junus stated that the symposium is being organized by the association, with the Guest of Honour expected to be former Tanzanian President, Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete.
Junus explained that the main objective of the symposium is to fulfill one of the core goals of the association’s establishment to unite government lawyers from various parts of the country to collectively discuss important legal matters.
“Our goal is not only to deliberate on legal issues among ourselves, but also to educate the public about their legal rights and responsibilities. The government is accountable to its people, and as such, we as government lawyers are also lawyers for the people,” said Junus.

He added that GLO is committed to providing legal education to the public, especially on issues that affect national interest, to enhance citizens’ understanding of their rights and the legal frameworks that govern them.
In light of Tanzania’s upcoming General Elections, Junus noted that this year’s symposium has been given special priority to focus on educating citizens about laws related to elections, so they can participate fully and knowledgeably in the democratic process.
The symposium is expected to bring together various stakeholders, including representatives from government institutions, legal bodies, academics, legal professionals, and the general public. It forms part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the rule of law, accountability, and justice in Tanzania.
