JK, Shein want tough actions on unethical members
FORMER Presidents have called on Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) to act tough on unethical party members for the sake of maintaining reputation and winning spirit in the coming general elections.
The call was made by former Presidents Jakaya Kikwete and Dr Ali Mohamed Shein (of Zanzibar) on Thursday in Dodoma during the 10th CCM National Congress.
They also insisted on the need for the members to continue fulfilling their responsibilities for future prosperity of the ruling party.
Speaking, Dr Kikwete who also served as the party national chairperson between 2006 and 2016 expressed his confidence in President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s leadership within CCM and the whole country.
However, he asked the Head of State to maintain her focus on leading the country instead of paying attention to mischief makers.
“President Samia, you shouldn’t be worried about rumourmongers, but focus on the issues that are of the national interest, and for those who will keep spreading lies…they will have to be grilled in the ethics committee,” he said.
Equally, the former leader pointed out that in the coming general election, they should nominate President Samia to vie for presidency, adding that he was optimistic that that there will be no other CCM member, who will grab the nomination form from the ruling party.
“Right now there are more popular politicians than President Samia within and even outside CCM, those who are spreading lies on people who are opting to vie for the seat should be disregarded,” he said.
In another development the former President suggested that the party should embark on training its new leaders and the cadres at the grassroots level, as part of preparations towards the coming elections.
He said, having cadres who are well prepared for the election will help the party to have a smooth victory during the elections including the one of 2025.
For his part, Dr Shein apart from supporting remarks by Dr Kikwete, asked the new leaders to take their time to familiarise themselves on how things operate within the party.
“It’s better to learn from those who have been in the party for a long time before starting to speak out your views, this is the best way of learning,” he said.
He added: “CCM should also be taking disciplinary measures against those engaging in unethical conducts as it’s the only way of maintaining the party’s position.”
