Japan confers Amb Mtango with order of the rising sun
FORMER Ambassador of Tanzania to Japan Elly Mtango has been conferred with the Order of the Rising Sun by the Japanese government in recognition of his contribution in promoting the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking during an award issuing event held on Friday, the Ambassador of Japan to Tanzania Yasushi Misawa said the awardee is highly recognised for his outstanding role in creating mutual understanding during his tenure.
“Amb Mtango served the role in Japan for nine years between 2000 and 2009 where he managed to coordinate a number of activities and events for mutual benefit,” he said.
“He was able to facilitate visits of two Tanzanian Presidents and other high level leaders. Those who visited Japan include President the late Benjamin Mkapa who was accompanied by former Minister the late Abdallah Kigoda.
He explained further that President Jakaya Kikwete also visited Japan under the coordination of Ambassador Mtango.
Attending the event, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Amb Mbarouk Nassor Mbarouk said the award should motivate all Tanzanian diplomats to fulfil their responsibilities accordingly.
“The government commends Amb Mtango for receiving this award from the government of Japan.
This is a clear indication of the mutual understanding between our two countries. This should also serve as a motivation for all Tanzania ambassadors who are working in various countries,” suggested the Deputy Minister.
Speaking, Amb Mtango thanked the government of Japan for recognising his role saying during his tour of duty to Japan he was able to learn a lot.
He encouraged other diplomats to continue working hard and put forward mutual interest or sustainable development in all aspects.
For their part, former Chief Secretary Amb Ombeni Sefue and Former Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Liberata Mulamula said recognition of Amb Mtango stands to promote further Tanzania and its role in advancing and maintaining multilateral cooperation.
Amb Mtango becomes the first Tanzanian to receive the award that formerly was given to exemplary military services prior to World War II and later on to individuals who have made distinguished contributions to Japan.
