It’s Evo-Subaru show as Guru Nanak Rally revs off

GURPAL Sandhu’s Mitsubishi Evo X will be the first off as Guru Nanak Rally revs off today in Arusha.

Sandhu, who will be navigated by Zambia Dave Sihoka, will be followed by  Manveer Birdi in Mitsubishi Evo 1X before Amapiano team of  Charles Bicco and Samuel Matete  leave the ramp in Subaru  Impreza  N8.

Unlike in the past events when Subaru and Mitsubishi dominated the entry list, this year’s event has witnessed Subaru outnumbering Mitsubishi Evos by far.

Drivers from Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, Tanga, Morogoro and one Zambian are competing in the fifth round of the national level championship.

There are only two Evos in this event dominated by over ten Imprezas.

Also among the notable entries  are the former National Rally Champion Dharam Pandya  who will be navigated by Mustafa Ally in Subaru Impreza and Amin Tufail in Subaru N8.

Organised by Arusha Motor Sports Club, Guru Nanak is the fifth round of the National Rally Championship (NRC) this season.

The rally, according to the organisers also pays homage to the former club’s chairman and rally driver Steven Lohay.

The list of drivers to start today includes Mussa Mswaki who will be guided by Said Hamis in Subaru N10  and Harrinder Deere who will be navigated by Zubayr Peredina in Subaru N12.

Monica Lyimo who navigates Kelvin Taylor in Subaru Impreza is the only Iron Lady in the dusty route race, according to the entry list released yesterday by the event’s organisers.

After a long absence Jammil Shahbahi is back on the wheel, but this time around he will be guided by navigator Ally Humoud also in Subaru Impreza.

Shahbhai was a popular figure in Tanzanian motor sports since the early 2000s, but he was less active in the 2010s.

The event, according to the organisers will be flagged off early today and will complete its dusty road chase around 16:00 today.
