IKUPA Trust Fund (ITF), a non-governmental organization (NGO), has donated a special bed for delivery to disabled people worth 1.3m/-,to the Dodoma-based Benjamin Mkapa Hospital (BMH).
ITF’s founder, Ms Stella Ikupa, while handing over the special bed to the BMH here on Monday, said disabled women need special care, while seeking medication, saying her NGO would continue to support the BMH to become a model hospital in the country in provision of special care to disabled people.
“I will continue to support the BMH in order for it to become a model hospital in the country in providing special care to disabled people,” said Ms Ikupa, who doubles as special seat MP (CCM).
The event was witnessed by Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups Mr Amon Mpanju,who doubles as Chairman of the ITF.
Mr Mpanju said handing over the special bed for delivery to BMH will enable the facility to effectively implement directives by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, to medical facilities countrywide to provide special care to disabled people.
“This special bed will be helpful to disabled women, while giving birth at the BMH,” he said.
On his part, Executive Director of the BMH, Dr Alphonce Chandika, expressed gratitude to the ITF for the donation, saying BMH would set aside a special room for delivery for disabled people.
“BMH will set aside a special room for disabled people to get more comfort while getting delivery,” said the Hospital’s boss.
