Iran-US talks: Nuclear discussions to begin in Italy’s Rome

  • Iran and the United States are set to hold a second round of indirect nuclear talks in Italy’s capital, Rome.
  • Foreign minister Abbas Araghchi leads the Iranian delegation, while envoy Steve Witkoff heads the US team.
  • The two officials will be negotiating indirectly through Omani mediators; the first round a week ago was held in Oman’s capital, Muscat.
  • Araghchi says he has serious doubts over the motivations of the US in regards to the talks, and added a nuclear deal is possible only if unrealistic demands are not made.
