Iramba residents benefit from Yas free eye care

SINGIDA: Residents of Iramba District in Singida Region have received much-needed eye care services through a free outreach program organized by Yas Tanzania, bringing relief to hundreds who have long struggled to access specialized treatment.

During the camp, more than 4,000 residents benefited from a free eye care medical camp organised by Yas in collaboration with the Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania.

The outreach aims to address the growing burden of eye-related conditions, particularly among rural communities with limited access to affordable healthcare services.

Singida Regional Commissioner, Halima Dendego, who officiated the launch of the camp, said eye health challenges remain widespread and called on residents to take advantage of the free services.

She encouraged residents to turn out in large numbers to benefit from the free services, emphasizing the critical role of partnerships between the private sector and social institutions in strengthening healthcare delivery across the country.

According to Camp Coordinator, Ain Sharif, the services offered include eye screening, provision of medication, prescription glasses, specialist consultations, and minor cataract surgeries for eligible patients.

He added that patients requiring further treatment will be referred to advanced health facilities, with children given priority to enable them to return to school without vision-related challenges.

“The goal of this outreach was to reach as many people as possible who lack access to eye care services. We managed to serve over 4,000 people within these three days, and a team of specialist doctors and nurses ensured efficient service delivery,” said Sharif.

On his part, Yas’ Sales Area Manager in Singida, Mr Emmanuel Kaminyonge, said the initiative is part of the company’s broader efforts to support community development beyond its core telecommunications business.
