India increases Tanzania scholarship slots to 135
ZANZIBAR: THE Government of India has increased scholarship opportunities for Tanzanian students from 85 to 135 slots under the India–Africa Maitri Scholarship Scheme for the 2026/27 academic year.
The additional 50 slots follow a broader expansion of India’s scholarship programme for African countries, which has grown from 1,103 places in 2025/26 to 1,499 in 2026/27.
The scholarships are administered by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), an autonomous body under India’s Ministry of External Affairs, and provide fully funded study opportunities at accredited institutions across India. Tanzanian students qualify under two schemes, the Atal Bihari Vajpayee General Scholarship Scheme and the India–Africa Maitri Scholarship Scheme.
The awards support undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and PhD studies in disciplines including engineering, science, humanities, arts, commerce and cultural studies.
