India explores opportunities to increase the volume of agricultural products from Tanzania

DAR ES SALAAM: THE government of India says it is exploring opportunities to increase the volume of agricultural products from Tanzania entering the Indian market, with the aim of improving quality, boosting exports and creating more employment opportunities in Tanzania.

High Commissioner of India to the United Republic of Tanzania, Bishwadip Dey, made the remarks today, September 2, 2026, during the 10th International Africa Agriculture Exhibition held at the Sabasaba Grounds in Dar es Salaam.

The exhibition has brought together stakeholders from across the agricultural sector, with more than 1,000 companies participating to showcase their products, technologies and services.

Dey said Tanzania and India have established relations and cooperation across various sectors, noting that there are several mechanisms and opportunities that can be leveraged to further strengthen cooperation in agriculture.

He also stressed the importance of Tanzania reducing post-harvest losses while strengthening training and skills development for farmers to improve agricultural productivity and the quality of produce.

“India is one of the major markets for Tanzania’s agricultural products, including cashew nuts, pulses, avocados and other products. We would like to collaborate with Tanzania by sharing knowledge, experience and resources, as well as through training,” Dey said.

“We want to explore opportunities to increase the volume of Tanzanian products exported to India while improving their quality, so that exports can increase and, ultimately, create more employment opportunities in Tanzania,” he added.

According to Dey, agriculture is one of the key sectors for employment creation and plays a significant role in economic growth. He said stronger cooperation between Tanzania and India could help improve productivity in agricultural production, processing and market access.

Dey thanked the organisers of the exhibition, TAB and TanTrade, for providing a platform that has brought together stakeholders from Tanzania and abroad to exchange knowledge and experience, showcase technology and explore business and investment opportunities.

He said the exhibition is among the important platforms connecting innovators, businesses, government institutions and other agricultural stakeholders to identify new opportunities for trade and cooperation.

Dey encouraged stakeholders to use the platform to explore new areas of collaboration, strengthen existing opportunities and establish new relationships that could drive trade and investment in Tanzania’s agricultural sector.
