India and Burundi are expected to brighten Tanzania Kabaddi Season I League to be staged at Saint Joseph University ground in Dar es Salaam from May 11th to 15th this year.
Speaking with ‘Daily News’ on Wednesday the Kabaddi association’s Chairman Abdallah Nyoni said Burundi will bring one team while India will bring girls’ and boys’ teams.
Nyoni named Kaole, Buffalo, Star Kabaddi, KMK, High View Secondary School, Mlaleni Secondary School and Kenton High School as notable entries from Tanzania.
‘’ All teams to participate in the league will also use the league to drill players for the Kabaddi World Cup finals,’’ he said
Additionally, he said the winners of the tournament will be awarded trophies, medals and prizes.
Nyoni said this tournament aims to groom more competitive players in the game as well as training them for the World Cup finals.
Adding, he said there is a demand for kabaddi players in the country but the association fails to groom them due to limited resources.
He, therefore called on various sports stakeholders including companies and institutions to also invest in the Kabaddi game so as to enable the association to groom a big number of players from different regions including Kilimanjaro, Mbeya, Dodoma.
Recently, two qualified coaches from India arrived to prepare national men’s and women’s teams for the World Cup finals in India.
The coaches; Simrat Gaikwad and N Soundarajan are called to bring to Tanzania high caliber coaching and bring a huge revolution to the game.
The coaches will enable players to drill hard so that they can shine in the forthcoming World Cup competition.
He said the government under the National Sports Council (NSC) is involved in the whole setup by providing residency, accommodation as well the transport when the coaches execute their duties inside and outside the country.
