DODOMA: THE government has collected 11.55tril/- in both internal and external revenue sources during the first quarter of 2024/25 fiscal year, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa told the august House yesterday.
Speaking when delivering his speech to adjourn a two-week Bunge session in Dodoma, Mr Majaliwa said that the government had intensified measures in this year’s budget execution.
“Out of the collected money, 7.93tril/- is from internal revenue sources (equivalent to 99.4) of the set target to collect 7.97tril/-,’’ he said, adding that the money includes 7.09tril/- collected by the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Non-tax revenue collected by Ministries Departments and Agencies (518.32bn/-) and revenue collected from Local Government Authorities (321.32bn/- ).
According to the Premier, the success was attributed to different plans set by the government, which among others include intensifying measures in the use of ICTs in revenue collection as well as the achievement of the effective use of Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs).

Mr Majaliwa, however, reminded TRA administrators to seal all loopholes for revenue loss as well as intensifying massive education to citizens on the importance of paying taxes for the best interests of the nation.
“I also wish to remind Local Government Authorities to initiate new sources of revenue so as to widen the tax base,’’ he said.
The Prime Minister further noted that during the first quarter of the 2024/25 budget execution, a permission of 11.67tril/- was granted to be released for spending in both recurrent and development expenditures.
He said that in recurrent, the money was used to pay salaries, servicing the government debt as well as in Other Charges (OCs).
Development expenditure include projects while different programmes including the construction of Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), roads, bridges and airports infrastructures.
Others, he said, were implementation of the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP), irrigation projects, Rural Energy projects as well as measures to improve performance of the Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL).
“Other expenditures are facilitating the free basic education programme, Standard Seven and Form Four examinations, preparation for 2024 Local Government Election, updating the voter register as well as preparations for the envisaged Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON),’’ he added.
In his speech to adjourn the House session, Mr Majaliwa also told parliamentarians that following efforts by President Samia Suluhu Hassan to be in the frontline to push for clean energy cooking solutions, Tanzania has been requested and agreed to host a two-day African High Level Energy Conference between 27 and 28 January, 2025.
The objective of the conference according to the Prime Minister is rooting for collaboration in joint efforts to connect 300 million people in Africa to electricity.
During the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) held in September 2024, President Samia was congratulated for being at the forefront in ensuring that all nations transform to clean cooking solutions by 2030.
In another development, as the rain season continues in different parts of the country, Mr Majaliwa asked farmers to enroll themselves in the farmers’ registers in their regions and district councils so as to have registration numbers that will help them to receive agricultural inputs including fertiliser.
“I wish to remind all legislators that when they go back to their constituencies, they should remind all farmers without registration numbers to go and register,’’ the PM insisted
