Ihefu squeeze into Federation Cup semis

SINGIDA: IHEFU have progressed into the semifinals of CRDB Bank Federation Cup, after defeating Mashujaa 4-3 on post-match penalties at Liti Stadium in Singida, on Wednesday.

The two sides produced a goalless draw in normal time of play, hence penalties had to be to to split the two sides, and after the shootout the hosts cherished the victory.

Elvis Rupia (pictured), Duke Abuya, Raphael Daudi and Jafari Kibaya converted their kicks while Rajab Athumani missed the first strike for Ihefu. For Mashujaa, Ally Ramadhan, Omary Kindamba and Reliants Lusajo scored theirs, whereas David Ulomi and Germanus Josephat missed the target.

As in the normal time of play, not much was seen in the first half in terms of exploring chances for goals by either side, no wonder the two teams went for break with nothing to separate them. Lusajo for Mashujaa and Rupia for Ihefu had a couple of scoring chances though none of them managed to make a difference.

Also, both teams showed resilience defensively as they had to defend in numbers while doing the same when attacking and a lot of footwork was seen at the middle of the pitch. In the second half, it was the same story, as goals were hard to come by, despite both teams strengthening their squads by making substitutions.

Ihefu, under the tutelage of Mecky Mexime, could not make the most of home ground advantage so as Mashujaa who failed to utilise well the away venue chances.

To reach this far, Ihefu got the better of KMC after registering a deserved 3-0 win at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam that was enough to drive them forward at the competition.

For Mashujaa, they ousted Simba 6-5 on postmatch spot-kicks at Lake Tanganyika Stadium in Kigoma, at a thrilling match that attracted attention of many football fans.

In the normal period of play, the duo recorded a 1-1 draw, forcing penalties to separate them. and at that juncture Mashujaa showed their superiority to stun the Reds.
