Igambilo Organization bolsters access to clean water, irrigation farming in Dodoma
DODOMA: THE Executive Director of Igambilo Organization, Gerald Ntyama, said his organization continues to improve the lives of residents in Makulu Village, Chamwino District, Dodoma Region, through the implementation of clean water, education, and community development projects.
Speaking during the Nane Nane Agricultural Exhibition in Dodoma, Ntyama said the organization successfully constructed a clean and safe water borehole in collaboration with local government leaders, community members, and Korea Hope Foundation, the project’s principal donor. He noted that the foundation’s generous support has played a vital role in ensuring that the people of Makulu have access to safe drinking water and sustainable development opportunities.
Ntyama expressed his sincere appreciation to Korea Hope Foundation for its commitment to supporting community-based development initiatives. He said the foundation’s contribution has brought renewed hope to the people of Makulu and demonstrates the importance of partnerships in improving the quality of life in rural communities.
Before the project was implemented, residents had to walk long distances to collect water from unsafe sources, a situation that contributed to the spread of waterborne diseases and placed a heavy burden on families, particularly women and children.
He explained that the availability of clean water from the borehole has significantly reduced the time women and children spend searching for water, allowing them to participate in education, income-generating activities, and other community development initiatives. The project has also reduced the risks faced by women and children when traveling long distances to fetch water.
In addition to the water project, Igambilo Organization has introduced vegetable farming using irrigation supplied by the borehole. Community members have received training in improved agricultural practices and have begun producing vegetables for household consumption as well as for sale, creating new sources of income.
Ntyama further said that the organization has introduced sunflower and sorghum cultivation using modern sprinkler irrigation systems. This technology enables farmers to irrigate large areas efficiently, even during the dry season, leading to increased agricultural productivity, improved food security, and higher household incomes.

He thanked the people of Makulu for their strong cooperation throughout the implementation of the project, emphasizing that its success has been made possible through the joint efforts of the community, village leaders, Korea Hope Foundation, and Igambilo Organization.
Ntyama reaffirmed that Igambilo Organization will continue working closely with the government and other development partners to implement additional community development projects, particularly in areas facing challenges related to drought and limited access to clean water.
He also reiterated the organization’s appreciation for Korea Hope Foundation, noting that the foundation’s generous support has made a lasting impact on the lives of Makulu residents and continues to contribute to sustainable community development.
